EARLY LEARNERS PROGRAM: AGES 0-3
Summer Reading Program starts June 1st, 2017
We want to help you fill your child’s summer with many opportunities for early literacy activities. This summer we invite you to read, make, and explore! You can read books to your child, explore with your child, and make time to have fun with your child.
Completing each book and activity will earn you a badge here on Beanstack. After you read 5 books you will earn a free book, and when you complete all three challenges, you will earn a toy prize!
Children who complete the Read, Make, Explore challenge can continue to enjoy books throughout the summer to earn more badges. All the books you read will also count toward our 1000 Books before Kindergarten program here on Beanstack, so make sure you register for that program too.
You can log everything right here in Beanstack, or use a paper log you pick up at the library or print from our website. Paper logs will not have as many ideas for activities as the online site. Calendars of special summer events are available at the library or can be printed from our website as well. We wish you an amazing summer!
Special thanks go to the Friends of the Woodland Public Library. Without their wonderful support and sponsorship, the library would not be able to provide these special programs.
Young children will win a free book after reading and logging five books. After they complete the program by logging five books, making time for five activities, and exploring in five ways, they will win a choice of a toy prize. Prizes may vary based upon availability. The prize store will open on Monday, June 18th, and prizes can be claimed until August 11th.
Logging and Badges
On Beanstack young children will earn badges for logging books, and for completing Make and Explore activities. Click on the activity badges to see the activity choices. There is always a choice to write in your own idea. Completing one activity will earn you the badge.
For young children logging on paper, there are some suggestions of activities for Make and Explore on the log. If you want to have more ideas we recommend you use Beanstack.
Kids can continue to read and log throughout the summer to win more badges and log books simultaneously for 1000 Books before Kindergarten if they are registered for that program in Beanstack.
This summer we will have our regular storytimes including the Farmer's Market Storytime on Saturdays outside at 10:00 AM. The Summer at the Library Kickoff Party will be on June 9th from 1:00-3:00 in the library courtyard and in the Leake Room, with a performance by Drea Lusion. There will be face painting, games hosted by Rec2Go and an opportunity to register and pick up a log for the program.
We will have free lunch for kids 18 and under starting on June 11th, which they can enjoy on the lawn in front of the library between 12 and 12:30. On Tuesdays we will have special events and performers starting at 1 PM, with shows including circus arts, magic, science, and puppetry, as well as bugs with the Bohart, a lesson from Kuk Sool Won, and more. There are other activities for older children you can read about on their Summer Reading Page.
