Celebrate César Chávez on March 27

To commemorate and celebrate the life and work of labor and civil rights leader César E. Chávez, the City of Woodland will be hosting a celebration at Heritage Plaza on March 27 at 5:00 pm. Join the City and fellow residents for this annual event that includes a special guest speaker, music, dance performances, and singing to celebrate the life and accomplishments of César Chávez. 

The program begins at 5:00 pm in Heritage Plaza and will consists of live singing and dance performances; the keynote speaker for the event will be Mexican Consul General in Sacramento, Liliana Ferrer.

Ms. Liliana Ferrer has been a Mexican Career Foreign Service Officer since 1992 and was appointed Ambassador by President Enrique Peña Nieto on November 8, 2018. Since May 2017 Ms. Ferrer has been the Consul General of Mexico in Sacramento, California. Prior to her assignment in Sacramento, she served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Mexican Embassy in Paris and as Head of Section of Political and Border Affairs at the Mexican Embassy in Washington D.C.

There will also be live dancing performed by the Beamer School Ballet Folklórico group and a vocal performance featuring Jimena Izquierdo. Students from the César Chávez School will present personal reflections of how César Chávez affected their lives. Several local non-profit organizations and resource groups will have outreach tables at the event. In addition, Las Brasas will be on hand selling tacos and salsas.

Families are encouraged to attend the event so children of all ages can learn about Chávez’s dedication to make life better for those working hard in agriculture.
