Camperships are available for income-qualified families of youth participants of Swim Lessons, Summertime Fun Club, Summer Teen Pack, and Lifeguard Training. “Camperships” are scholarships resulting in a fee reduction for the program (programs are not offered for free). Camperships are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are sponsored by Measure J. Woodland residents that meet the requirements for the school lunch program are generally eligible for camperships. Through generous a donation from the Woodland Kiwanis Club, the Woodland Community Services Department has camperships available for youth swim lessons. During the summer, group swimming lessons are offered for participants as young as six-months old through adults. Each session lasts for two-weeks and is held Monday through Thursday. Camperships result in a substantial fee reduction for swim lessons, reduced to $10 (regularly $60) per 2-week session.
Summertime Fun Club is a 10-week program offered daily during the school summer recess at Ferns Park, Pioneer Park, and Woodside Park. This program serves youth entering grades 1st through 6th and is divided into two, five-week sessions. For those approved for campership, registration into the Summertime Fun Club is $175 (regularly $325) per 5-week session.
Summer Teen Pack is a daily program for youth entering grades 6th through 8th and provides activities, field trips, and games during the summer. This program is offered weekly starting June 10 through August 9. For those approved for the campership, registration into the Summer Teen Pack, is $40 (regularly $90) per week.
Lifeguard Training is a five-day, 40-hour week class for youth 15 and older. Completion of the Lifeguard Training class and passing a test certifies participants as a lifeguard through the American Red Cross lifeguard certification program. Many participants who complete this class are later hired by the City of Woodland to work at the Charles Brooks Community Swim Center for the summer. For those approved for the Lifeguard Training campership, registration into the class is $60 (regularly $160).
To qualify for a campership, families must meet a low-income requirement. All campership recipients must register and pay reduced rate to be guaranteed participation in desired program.
