June 12, 2020 - Iconic State Theater Set to Reopen July 10th

(Woodland, CA) – As summer in beautiful Yolo County begins to bloom, our community will soon be able to find reprieve from the warming temperatures and enjoy a movie at our Iconic State Theater in Downtown Woodland!

Effective today, the State and Yolo County have authorized the reopening of movie theaters.  Our local theatre is preparing to open its doors on July 10th in advance of the movie industry’s release of the summer film line up. Like the majority of other industries, the film and production industry was halted during shelter-in-place and is currently navigating the new State guidelines to ensure the safety of actors and production crews.

Dave Corkill, CEO of Cinema West shared that the initial week following reopening will feature a mix of new releases, classics, and films released just before shelter-in-place. Starting on 17 July, guests can look forward to a full line up of exciting new film releases.  After months of watching movies and TV shows at home during the shelter-in-place order, our community will finally be able to stretch out their legs and kick back on this iconic theatre’s plush recliners to enjoy the big screen experience. No need to worry about blocked views as reserved seating will accommodate 6 feet of distance between parties. Corkill furthermore mentioned that routine cleanings of seats will take place after each showing, as well as throughout the theatre to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all. "Our staff can’t wait to get back to business and see our many regular guests again. We are excited to reopen in July and that such a great lineup of new movies will be available. I can smell the popcorn cooking ..." [Dave Corkill, CEO of Cinema West]

State Theater captured durring shelter-in-place

Although our community still has a few weeks to plan its "dinner, drinks & a movie" outing, residents can already enjoy dine-in experiences at any of our Woodland restaurants. From a locally sourced brunch at Savory Cafe, to a fresh Mediterranean lunch at Gyro Palace, to an urban Afghan culinary experience at House of Shah, our restaurant owners and their staff have gone above and beyond to provide residents with delicious meals and quality service in addition to compliance with State safety guidance.   Furthermore, this Friday 12 June marks the State and County’s authorized reopening of bars, pubs, breweries, and wineries. Community members of age will once again be able to sit down and enjoy locally crafted drinks at some of our favorite Downtown spots like Father Paddy’s pub and Blue Note Brewing. Residents looking for Yolo County wine and a nearby scenic drive can head out to Matchbook Winery, Séka Hills, and look forward to the grand opening of Grindstone Winery’s tasting room the weekend of 11 July!   Like all Woodland businesses, Blue Note Brewing’s owner Dave Towne is thrilled that he will once again be able to open his doors to the community. "We at Blue Note are happy to hear that our friends and neighbors at the State Theatre are reopening on July 10th! They are such a great addition to our historic downtown businesses and we are glad that they weathered the storm.” [Dave Towne, owner of Blue Note Brewing] His nano-brewery, which has been a local gathering spot since its opening in 2015, is walking distance to many downtown boutiques, shops, restaurants, and the soon-to-be-reopened State Theatre, making it easy for residents to plan a fun trip to Downtown Woodland. We know that you all have missed stopping by our local businesses to enjoy a local meal or drink, as well as relaxing in front of our a new film while taking in that unforgettable buttery popcorn smell of the State Theatre, so come out and enjoy what Woodland has to offer!
