On December 13, 2012, at approximately 7:10 A.M., a citizen called the Woodland Police Department to report that his 1994 Chevrolet Blazer had just been stolen from his driveway in the 800 block of Cottonwood St. Officers responded to the area but did not locate the stolen vehicle or the suspect.

At approximately 12:20 P.M. a Woodland Police Officer located the stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on Oak Ave. near Saunders Ln. The officer followed behind the vehicle while waiting for additional officers to assist. The vehicle turned southbound onto Elm St. from eastbound Oak Ave. and pulled over to the shoulder directly across from Dingle Elementary School. The officer conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle and waited for responding officers.

Dingle Elementary School officials were immediately notified of the situation and the school was briefly placed on lock-down until the driver and sole occupant, 31 year-old Woodland transient Eduardo Chavez, was taken into custody without incident. Chavez was later booked into the Yolo County Jail for Vehicle theft, Driving without a license, and an active no bail warrant from the Yolo County Probation Department as Chavez had previously violated the terms of his Post Release Community Supervision.
