On 12-30-2012 at 2:16 a.m. Woodland Police Officers were dispatched to Woodland Memorial Hospital for a victim of an assault with a machete. The victim, 24 year old Woodland resident Joseph Mendoza, sustained a non-life threatening head injury. Mendoza's friend, 23 year old Woodland resident Ryan Gomez, came to Mendoza's aid and wrestled the machete away from the suspect. Gomez sustained a non-life threatening injury to his right hand.
The suspect was described as a young Hispanic Male, 5'6", 140 llbs, wearing a white hooded jacket and dark jeans. The assault took place at 724 Cottonwood St., Woodland Oaks Apts, in the parking lot. The attack occurred between 1:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on 12-30-2012.
