During the past six weeks the City of Woodland has experienced an enormous increase in auto thefts.  A total of 52 stolen vehicles had been reported stolen in the City of Woodland from December 1st 2012 through January 15th, 2013.  Of the 52 vehicles stolen, 32 of them where 1990's Honda Accords and Civics.  In 2011 the City of Woodland had reported 131 vehicles stolen and 202 in 2012 which was an increase of 54%.

The Woodland Police Department took a proactive approach to this problem and launched a stolen vehicle enforcement detail in the City of Woodland on the nights of January 15th and 16th.  Officers from the Woodland Police Department, with the assistance of the following agencies:  Sacramento County Auto Theft Suppression Task Force (SACCATS) consisting of law enforcement officers from the California Highway Patrol, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, Sacramento County Probation Department and the Yolo County District Attorney's Office, the Yolo County Probation Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Auto Crimes Enforcement Detail (ACE).  A total of 16 law enforcement officers from these agencies worked together to combat this problem.

The Crime Analysis Unit from the Woodland Police Department developed a map to show areas where the vehicles were being stolen from and where they have been located to include the trend showing the types of vehicles being stolen.  Officers then went out and conducted surveillance in the areas which had been affected the most to include surveillance on stolen vehicles that officers had located.

As a result officers arrested the following 8 subjects during this two day detail:
