|On the 13th of May 2013 at approximately 2:40 pm, Woodland Police Officers were dispatched to the J.C. Penney store parking lot for a report of a strong-armed robbery that just occurred. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, a 24 year old Placer County man waiting in the parking lot. The victim reported that he was in communication with a Woodland resident over the phone and planned to sell a tablet computer he had posted for sale on Craigslist. |
While waiting in the parking lot, 2 younger Hispanic males arrived in a silver Toyota Echo. One of the Hispanic males spoke with the victim and asked to see the computer. The suspect sat in the passenger's side of the Toyota and the driver tried to accelerate out of the parking lot. The victim tried to stop the suspects while holding on to the door frame of the car. As the suspects accelerated, the victim was dragged a short distance leaving him with minor injuries. The victim managed to remember the license plate of the Toyota which he relayed to police dispatch.
Assisting officers responded to the 1300 block of Tyler Dr where they found the suspect vehicle. Officers also detained 20 year old Woodland resident, Oscar Omar Gonzalez, as he matched the physical description of the suspect driver. Oscar Omar Gonzalez was eventually identified in an in-field show up as being the driver of the suspect vehicle. He was arrested for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
Officers conducted a second show-up of Gonzalez with a different victim. This victim reported a similar type theft on May 12 where he met Gonzalez from a Craigslist post. The victim told officers he met Gonzalez at the 7-11 store (301 Cottonwood St) to to sell his Iphone. Gonzalez took the phone, drove away, and never paid the victim. Gonzalez was also charged for theft in this incident.
In the course of the investigation, Officers learned that the second suspect may be in a home in the 1400 block of Washington Dr. The second suspect, was identified as 18 year old Colusa County resident Eduardo Orozco. Orozco eventually surrendered himself to officers. Eduardo Orozco was arrested for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and numerous Colusa County warrants.
In the execution of a search warrant, a Woodland Police Detective recovered the stolen tablet computer from today's incident.
Both Oscar Gonzalez and Eduardo Orozco were booked at the Yolo County Jail.
