On Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at 12:52 A.M., Woodland Police Officers were dispatched to 7-11, located at 301 Cottonwood St., for a report of a fight that occurred at that location. While officers were en route dispatch updated that a male victim of the fight had reportedly been attacked by five Hispanic male adults.
Officers arrived in the area within minutes and located two suspects, later identified as 21 year-old Woodland resident Christian Roa and 20 year-old Woodland resident Jose Jimenez-Munoz, on Cottonwood St. near W. Lincoln Ave. Roa and Jimenez-Munoz were taken into custody without incident. Additional responding officers located two other suspects, later identified as 19 year-old Woodland resident Justin Gonzalez and 21 year-old Woodland resident Anthony Ozuna, on Community Ln. midway between W. Lincoln Ave. and W. Main St. Gonzalez and Ozuna were also taken into custody without incident.
The investigating officer spoke with the male victim and learned that he had been approached by five to six suspects outside of 7-11 and asked for money. The suspects then attacked him without provocation. During the attack the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and later refused medical treatment. The victim, who is not believed to have any gang association, reported that the suspects stole various items from the victim’s possession and yelled gang slurs during the assault. These four suspects were positively identified as being the same subjects that attacked the victim and stole his belongings. Some of the victim’s property was recovered from the suspects.
While officers were on Community Ln., a subject was seen repeatedly peeking out of bushes near the northwest corner of Community Ln. and W. Lincoln Ave. This subject’s behavior was also reported to dispatch by a witness in the area. Believing this subject may have also been involved in the robbery, officers responded quickly down the street to attempt contact him. A subject, later identified as 19 year-old Woodland resident Juan Fuentes, was located hiding in the bushes in this area and was forcibly taken into custody after he refused to comply with the officer’s commands to come out. Fuentes was also positively identified as one of the suspects involved in the robbery.
Roa, Jimenez-Munoz, Gonzalez, Ozuna, and Fuentes were later booked into the Monroe Detention Center on charges of Robbery and Participation in a Criminal Street Gang, both felonies. Fuentes was booked on an additional charge of Resisting, Obstructing, or Delaying an Officer in the performance of his/her duties, a misdemeanor. Anyone with information regarding this crime or these suspects is encouraged to call the Woodland Police Department at (530) 666-2411.
