On 10-3-13, at about 0745 hrs, Woodland Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Clover and Walnut Streets for a report of an assault in progress. A witness reported seeing two males engaged in a physical fight; one of the males was bleeding from the face.
Officers arrived and detained a subject in the 300 block of Clover Street. The subject was later determined to be suspect Francisco Tapia, a 36 year old Woodland resident. Other responding officers then located the victim, a 58 year old white male adult, also a Woodland resident, in the area of College and Court Streets.
During the investigation, officers discovered Tapia had attempted to steal the victim’s vehicle in the 100 block of Walnut Street. When the victim refused to give Tapia the cars keys, Tapia stabbed the victim repeatedly in the back of the head and upper torso. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported and treated at University of California Davis Medical Center. It was discovered that Tapia and the victim are known acquaintances and that there were no other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the assault.
Tapia was arrested and booked at the Yolo County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, attempted carjacking and attempted murder.
