On March 18, 2014 at approximately 2240 hours, Woodland police officers responded to the 600 block of Elm Street.  It was reported to dispatch there was a physical altercation and a victim of a stab wound.

Officers arrived to find the victim lying on the ground with a stab wound and immediately summoned medical aid.  The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.  Investigators from the Woodland Police Department and the Yolo County Coroner's Office responded to take over the investigation.  At this time the victim's information is not going to be released until notifications have been made to next of kin.  This is an ongoing investigation so no further information will be available.

On 03-20-14 Woodland Police Detectives announced the identity of the suspect they were looking for.  The suspect was Julio Demetrio Gayton a 26 year old Hispanic male adult.  The Investigations Division also announced they were looking for a "person of interest".  That subject was Jesse Armando Tapia a 23 year old Hispanic male adult.

On 03-28-14 at approximately 0900 hours, the Woodland Police Department received an anonymous tip stating the homicide suspect, Gayton, was located at a residence on West Elliot St in Woodland.  The department responded accordingly and set up a perimeter around the location.  Once all resources were in place to include a helicopter, the suspect was advised via loud speaker to come out.  The suspect responded by exiting the location with his hands up and was taken into custody without incident.  Gayton will be booked at the Yolo County Jail on the charge of homicide.

Tapia was not located with Gayton so he is still outstanding and a "person of interest".

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Woodland Police Department at 530-661-7800 or 530-666-2411.  Callers may remain anonymous.
