POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES GRANT FUNDING FOR NEW EQUIPMENT
Contact : Lieutenant Don Beal    661-7800

The Woodland Police Department is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation.  The foundation generously gave a donation of $2,000 for the purchase of new equipment for the Patrol Division.  This donation will be used to replace some worn and aging equipment that officers carry in their patrol cars, and to add the same equipment to some of the cars that don't currently have it.   One example of the equipment that will be purchased is a device called a WRAP, which is a safe restraint used to wrap around the legs of a person who is aggressively kicking and to prevent them from continuing to do so.  These restraints promote safety to both the restrained person, but also to officers.  In addition, it also lowers the incidents of damage to police vehicles by preventing a person from kicking while inside car.  The WRAP restraint has been available to law enforcement for 19 years.  The Woodland Police Department has safely and effectively used the WRAP restraint devices for nearly all of the 19 years that they have been in existence.
