Senior FREE Movie Day

April 11, 2011

The showing of “Red” for Senior Movie day on March 17 was a huge success. Typical movie days have attendance of 5 or less viewing the movie. This month, there were over 15 who came to watch the latest Bruce Willis movie. Staff plans to keep choosing newer movies on DVD release that may interest seniors. April’s movie is “The Secretariat” starring Diane Lane to be shown on April 21. Senior Movie Day is free and open to any senior. Popcorn and drinks are served, provided by Senior Center, Inc.

A new card group was formed at the Senior Center with great success. Now meeting on Wednesday mornings from 9:00 to 12:00 is the Hand and Foot Group. The first meeting had over 20 players playing the widely popular game very similar to canasta. All are welcome to join. This new group brought a few new seniors to participate at the Senior Center.

During the Chit Chat Café (lunch session), staff has been working to offer various types of entertainment to seniors. This is in efforts to increase participation during lunch and to bring new seniors into the Senior Center and Chit Chat Café on slower days. Working with an intern from American River College, staff is incorporating games and travel-type slide shows during lunch a few days a week.
