This event, open to the public, will celebrate the work and efforts of these students. Starting practically from zero literacy, they are now achieving higher levels of literacy.
Woodland Literacy Services provide adult learners with volunteer tutors who work with them an average of two hours a week. The student's achievements will be recognized at this event. Jacquie Brinkley from the California State Library Literacy Service will serve as the keynote speaker. The event will also include a silent auction to raise funds for the Woodland Literacy Council providing additional monetary support for the Literacy Services.
There will be much to celebrate. To spice up the afternoon there will be a special performance by the Tarlesson Family, originally from Liberia, performing African dance, song, and drumming. "The members of this family have the same qualities as our students - resiliency, dedication, and hope for the future," noted Sue Bigelow. "I'm very excited they will be joining us for this celebration."
