The work being performed at the intersection is a part of the Safe Routes to School project that is being funded by a state grant. The closure is required to complete underground work that must be done before construction of the new ADA curb ramps and lighted crosswalk on Third Street can be finished. These features will raise driver awareness and improve pedestrian visibility for the students at Douglas Middle School and the residents of the neighborhood.
The City had intended to construct these improvements before the start of the school year; however unforeseen utility conflicts were encountered when the work began that has delayed the work. We understand that the road closure will be inconvenient we are asking for your patience as we work to make your neighborhood safer.
