Downtown Woodland's The Lab@AgStart was recently honored by The University of California, Davis, as its Innovative Community Partner of the Year. UC Davis announced AgStart and the other recipients of the 2022 Chancellor’s Innovation Awards at an event on June 16. The awards recognize faculty, community partners, and industry leaders developing innovative solutions to improve the lives of others and address important needs in our society. Woodland's The Lab@AgStart fits the bill: the facility is the largest wet-lab incubator for startup companies in California’s Central Valley and has already attracted over two dozen new science-based jobs to the Woodland community and brought over $45 million in private capital investment to the region since it opened in May 2021.
The Lab@AgStart's Yocha Dehe Wet Lab and Raley's Food Lab give innovators and startup entrepreneurs access to crucial wet-lab and commercial kitchen facilities and equipment along with office, event, and co-working space. The Lab@AgStart was fully occupied with startup company researchers just a few months after it opened and supports many companies that work with UC Davis-affiliated students, researchers, and graduates.
The City of Woodland and Yolo County, along with a team of committed public and private entities, invested directly in The Lab@AgStart to help deliver this valuable and much-needed resource to our community and the entire region.
