EnviroWoodland News

Tip of the Month

Have you decided on a New Year's resolution yet? If not, consider reading more books and turning off the TV this year. The Woodland Public Library offers a great selection of books to borrow that can take you on an adventure, explore a new world or learn something new. By borrowing a book, you are reducing your carbon footprint because you are using existing resources that are already available to you!

If you have books that you no longer read, don't throw them away! Instead donate your books for someone else to discover!

Green Waste Cart

The Carts Are Coming!

The Carts Are Coming!

Last month, Woodland City Council passed a new ordinance in compliance with SB 1383’s regulations. This means all residents, multi-family properties, and businesses will be required to have trash, recycling, and organics services.

Fortunately, for the ones that already have all three services, no changes are required. For those new to the recycling and/or organics programs, a letter will be sent with information about the new services and a new organics cart and/or recycling cart will be delivered sometime next month.

For more information about these new changes, visit www.cityofwoodland.org/SB1383.

Waste Management Claw Machine

Monthly Green Waste Service

Beginning February 1st, green waste services will return to monthly pickups. As a reminder, please use your green waste cart as much as possible as those continue to be collected weekly all year long.

Starting March 1, Waste Management will be changing some green waste service areas. If your service day is changed, you will receive a notice in the mail. Updated maps and calendars will come soon.

To view your monthly service week and day and create reminders about the upcoming changes, visit the Waste Wizard & Collection Calendar.

Big Blue Barn

Half Off at the Big Blue Bar

This Friday and Saturday, January 21st and 22nd, from 9 am to 3 pm, the Big Blue Barn will be hosting their monthly half off sale. This thrift store is a great way to find used items in good condition, and purchase things that would have ended up in the landfill.

The Big Blue Barn is located at the Yolo County Central Landfill, 44090 Co Rd 28H, and more information can be found on their Facebook page. Please note that CDC guidelines regarding masks and social distancing will be in place.

Start the New Year With a Water-Wise Landscape

Winter is a great time to spruce up your landscape and check for leaks around the home. Here are some ways you can help conserve water:

  • Sprinkler Check Up - Check on your irrigation system for any broken, clogged or missing parts. Running a faulty irrigation system can cause leaks and overflows, and waste a surprisingly large amount of water. For a step by step checklist on how to inspect each zone for signs of water waste click here.
  • Check for leaks - Did you know that your irrigation system can have a leak even if you turn it off at the controller? Check your home for potentially hidden leaks on AquaHawk, your water use dashboard and leak alert system. With AquaHawk, you can monitor your water use and check for abnormal patterns. Click here to find out how much water you are using today!
  • Weather Based Irrigation Controller - A weather based irrigation controller (WBIC) can evaluate weather conditions and automatically adjust watering schedules to meet the specific needs of your landscape. The City offers Woodland water users an exclusive Rachio 3 discount and a $150 rebate for WBIC's! Learn more at Envirowoodland.org/Rebates.
