Bee City

Woodland is a Bee City!

Check Up on Your Irrigation!

Did you know that the average landscape is over-watered by as much as 50%?

With the summer heat upon us and the rainy season fading away, many people will begin using more irrigation on their landscapes. On average, 30-60% of our water is used outdoors, so smart irrigation is a great place to start saving water. Below are a few tips that can help you to avoid a high summer water bill while still letting your landscape thrive:

  • Make sure to adjust your irrigation schedule so that you don’t over water your yard. Visit BeyondtheDrought.com for information about how to schedule your irrigation system properly.
  • Consider getting a Weather-Based Irrigation Controller, which will automatically adjust your watering for the temperature and rainfall. Get a rebate up to $150 for installing one at EnviroWoodland.org/Rebates.

  • Run your system manually to check for any broken sprinkler heads or pipes. Consider switching old, inefficient sprinkler heads to rotary nozzles and using drip irrigation where possible for even more water savings.

Want to know how much water your irrigation system is using? Use our free online water use portal, AquaHawk, to view your water usage and find hidden leaks by visiting EnviroWoodland.org/MyWaterUse.
